Arthroscopic Posterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Using the Posterior Trans-Septal Portal
Jim Hwan Ahn, MD, PhD
American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
Orthopedics & Orthopedic Surgery

Area of Focus: Hip, Knee, & Lower Extremity

Describes a new arthroscopic technique that uses the posterior transeptal portal to reconstruct the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), while preserving the remnant bundle of original PCL and meniscofemoral ligament. The posterior trans-septal portal provides an excellent visualization of PCL tibial attachment and an easy access to the tibial tunnel without injuring any neurovascular structure. The remnant bundle of the original PCL and meniscofemoral ligament, which significantly contribute to the posterior stability of the knee joint, are preserved. They are then healed with a graft and subsequently form an integrated structure.
