Biology
- Presents the most comprehensive coverage on the early life histories of catfish and madtoms of North America
- Contains distinguishing characteristics and a pictorial guide to families in the Ohio River Drainage
- Provides critical information on how to identify larval fishes collected in sampling programs
- Includes numerous original illustrations of larval fish with morphological descriptions
In recent decades, water resource issues have emerged as a worldwide priority. In the arena of reproductive biology and the early life ecology of fishes, so little has been investigated that larvae of most fish species often can not be identified. This series addresses that scientific void. It provides a systematic approach to the study of early life histories of all fishes in Ohio River basin, including many species whose range extends well beyond this region. Based on thorough field collections of early life phases, propagation, and culture activities, this volume presents characteristics of and a pictorial guide to the Ictaluridae--catfish and madtoms.
